PEACH and Quality Start Los Angeles (QSLA) Using Anti-Bias & Anti-Racist
Practices to Support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging for BIPOC*
Families in ECE

PEACH‘s Anti-Racism & Equity Working Group and QSLA have partnered to launch this new series “Using Anti-Bias & Anti-Racist Practices to Support Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging for BIPOC* Families in ECE.” The series, running from August 2022 – May
2023, will focus on creating conversation spaces with your early learning programs to better center anti-bias and anti-racist practices in your work with children and families, particularly in support of marginalized families of color. As our society grapples with racism, diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and the violence this often generates, we find ourselves at a pivotal point. Partner with us to co-develop the knowledge and expertise needed to support children and families of color in our programs with
equity and justice at the forefront. Los Angeles County’s Office for the Advancement of Early Care and Education, QSLA, and PEACH have identified county funding to develop new workshops and to utilize and re-purpose workshop recordings from the 2022-23 series.

Oh, the languages we'll speak and hear! The Dr Seuss Foundation, 2021-2023

The Dr. Seuss Foundation funded PEACH to create and present six workshops for ECE teachers, caregivers, and administrators, focusing on literacy development in Multilingual Learner (MLL) contexts. Participants explored research, U.S. language policy, and evidence-based strategies to support literacy development in monolingual English and MLL children (ages 0-8) and their families. The "Oh, the Languages We'll Speak and Hear!" project empowers ECE professionals and faculty to foster language and literacy skills while promoting creativity, art appreciation, lifelong
learning, and holistic growth in young children. It emphasizes creating joyful, inclusive environments that inspire learning and well-being.

Workshop topics include:

  • ï‚· "Oh, the Places You'll Go!"...The Cultural Construction of Language

  • Language Acquisition and Development

  • ï‚· Culturally Responsive Practices
